How to show up as your true self as a salesperson

created and produced by john c ashworth

I mentioned my high school football coach in the intro, but then never got around to sharing that part of the story and it’s important…

He used to say, “Go out and give it everything you have tonight and don’t worry about the scoreboard. The scoreboard will take care of itself if you’re taking care of everything else.” I’ve never forgotten that idea and as an inside salesperson for a fast-growing technology company, it’s never been more true.

In any sales position, the ability to focus on your own performance rather than worrying about the outcome is key to success. Don’t let your quota get hold of you by the neck and let you forget who you are, what got you here and what you need to continue to do in order to product results.

For a salesperson, this means concentrating on your own gifts, skills, processes and techniques, rather than concerning yourself with whether or not you will make a sale on your next sales call; or whether or not your current quota is realistic. This approach will help you maintain clarity and balance, and stay true to yourself and your vision, and the more you do that, the more you will sell.

Good luck out there…
